out of the CNC workshop
- Action points for COFMOW:
- Procurement: [Refer to the Suggested strategy for the
Maintenance of CNC machines, para 1)]
- Technology: Only latest technology, machines with AC drives
only, limited no. of types of systems, reliable suppliers and their
Indian agents, air-dryer with the machines. Take the users experience
with various systems/ suppliers into account.
- Accessories: Only absolutely necessary ones, isolation
transformer, stabiliser, etc.
- Initial Spares: EPROM back up, initial supply for 2 years,
clause for guaranteed supply of spares up to 5 years
- Documentation: Detailed documentation as enumerated in
para 1)i) of the Suggested Strategy for the Maintenance of CNC machines.
- After-sales service: Preferably they should have repair
centres in India itself.
- Action points for Railways:
- Dos and Donts for CNC machines: Care while selecting
location, installation, isolation, operation, house-keeping, etc.
[Refer to the paper by COFMOW, given under para 1) of Summary of
Papers presented.]
- Training: Training at M/s HMT, CMTI, SIEMENS, FTIs to be
made use of. Hands-on training at DCW/ RCF for 2-3 months. [Refer
to para 5) of the Suggested Strategy

- Maintenance infrastructure: create maintenance infrastructure
for hydraulics/ pneumatics, PCB level repairs of CNC machines. [Refer
to para 4) a) c) and d) of the Suggested Strategy
]
- Maintenance organisation: Create maintenance organisation
with qualified people. Suggested structure given at Para 3) b) and
c) of the Suggested Strategy
- Sharing spares: Spares to be shared on loan basis unless
the stock permits permanent issue. [Refer para 7)c) of the Suggested
Strategy
]
- Sharing information: Railways to provide information to IRIMEE
as enumerated in para 7)a) of the Suggested Strategy
so that
the same may be put up on a web-site by IRIMEE after consolidation.
- Making use of others experiences: See para 3)b), 4)d)
of Summary of papers presented. Also make use of the IRIMEEs
web-site for CNC machines when it comes up.
- Action points for IRIMEE:
- Setting up a web-site for sharing information collected from the
railways.
- Acting as a nodal agency for organising meetings pertaining to maintenance
of the CNC machines and for disseminating knowledge gained through
case-studies.
- Points for consideration of the Railway Board:
- Procedure for procurement of spares: Simplify the procedure
for procurement of imported spares for CNC machines on the lines of
para 2) of the Suggested Strategy
- Centralised CNC maintenance Facilities: Guidelines may be
issued considering the points covered in para 3)a), 4)b) and 4)e)
of the Suggested Strategy
- Devolution of powers: Suggestions have been given at para
6) of the Suggested Strategy
- Constitute CNC Maintenance Group: This group could be formed
on the lines of DMG, CMG, WMG etc.
