Seminar Programme

The First International Seminar on Alternate Fuels for Rail Traction shall be held in the Auditorium of the National Rail Museum, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi - 110 021, India on Monday, 2nd Feb 09 and Tuesday, 3rd Feb 09.

Abstracts of papers are due 28 November 2008 and should be submitted only by mail

The Indian Railways invite you to submit papers for presentation and discussion at the First International Seminar on Alternate Fuels for Rail Traction 2009. Papers are solicited from members of the rail transportation corporations and rail transit agencies, governmental agencies, consulting/engineering firms, academia, technical organizations, and others. Papers should cover topics of current interest including, but not limited to:

  • Cost, energy efficiency, sustainability and environmental impact of alternative fuels
  • Environmental impact of rail transportation
  • Sustainable Economics of rail transportation
  • Regenerative braking, trackside energy storage,driver training
  • Sustainability of Biofuels
  • Economics of Ultra Low Sulpher Diesel
  • Hydrogen Energy to power the railways
  • Fuel-Cell Technology for the railways
  • Solar Power, Ethanol, Biobutanol, Alcohol Fuel and Methane Biogas as a source of power for rail traction
  • Hybrid Vehicles technology for railways
  • Economics of clean electrification


Author Guidelines


The abstracts should be be formatted in Microsoft Word (.doc) format as per this Word template. The formatting guidelines are as under:
  • Font Arial size 12.
  • The top and bottom margins should be 1" while the left and right margins should be set at 1.5"
  • The abstract should be limited to 500 words.

The manuscripts of the accepted abstracts should be formatted in accordance with this Word template .
ISAFRT adheres to a double blind peer review process in which reviewer identities are unknown to authors; and the author identities are unknown to reviewers. In preparing your paper for submission, include author names and affiliations as directed in the Word template. All submissions will be peer-reviewed by the Program Committee and published in the Seminar proceedings. Full papers should follow the Author Guidelines.
Full papers either describe innovative original work in detail or provide critical, well-referenced overviews of key developments or good practice in the areas outlined above. Full papers will be assessed using the following criteria:
  • Originality of the approach to implementation
  • Generalizability of the methods and results described
  • Quality of the contribution to the implementation community
  • Significance of the results presented
  • Clarity of presentation


Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another proceedings for consideration.
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format (RTF) file format.
  3. The text conforms to the formatting as provided in the Word Template.
  4. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements set out in the Word Template.
  5. The author(s) agree to grant ISAFRT non-exclusive permission to publish the submitted work in the Proceedings and to disseminate and make that work available to the public in any form or medium.


Copyright Notice

All intellectual property rights in papers submitted to the ISAFRT 2009 Proceedings reside with the authors. ISAFRT identifies the authors as the copyright holders unless specifically directed otherwise. ISAFRT requires non-exclusive permission from the authors published in the Proceedings to disseminate and make their works available in any form or medium. Authors are responsible for clearing any rights prior to submitting materials to the Proceedings.

Privacy Statement

The names and email addresses entered in this site will be used exclusively, and in confidence, by the editorial staff in the processes of peer review of submissions for the ISAFRT Seminar Proceedings and managing reader services. Personally identifiable information will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

The abstracts shall be accepted till 28 November 2008. The notification for the accepted abstracts shall be sent through email by December 06, 2008. Final manuscripts shall need to be submitted online by January 03, 2009.
