The Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE) was established in the year 1888 as a Technical School. The training of Mechanical Engineers for Indian Railways commenced in the year 1927, which was hitherto taking place in England. It is not only the oldest of the six Centralised Training Institutes functioning for training of Officers of Indian Railways, it is also amongst the first Technical Institutes in the country and only one imparting four years SCRA training culimanting in a degree of Mechanical Engineering.
IRIMEE conducts following four type of training:-
- SCRA four years undergraduate programme leading to a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 18 months training for Indian Railways Services of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) Probationary Officers.
- Courses for In-service IRSME Officers and other Organisations
- Courses for Supervisors.
